Morecambe 2-3 Gillingham

Gillingham twice came from behind to claim victory over fellow League Two play-off contenders Morecambe at the Mazuma Stadium.

Connor Mahoney scored the Gills' winner four minutes from time with a fine finish following a poor clearance from Morecambe goalkeeper Archie Mair.

Morecambe had got off to a great start with Jordan Slew firing them into an 11th-minute lead.

The visitors levelled shortly afterwards when Oli Hawkins produced a neat finish after the Shrimps failed to deal with Remeao Hutton's right-wing cross.

The home side regained the lead in the 64th minute with a well-worked goal when Charlie Brown slid in at the far post to divert Ged Garner's shot past Glenn Morris.

The Shrimps looked to add to their lead with Slew forcing two saves from Morris and Garner flashing a fierce shot inches wide.

But it was the visitors who stuck next when Timothee Dieng's hopeful long-range effort squirmed through Mair's grasp to make it 2-2 before Mahoney struck the winner as Morecambe slumped to a fourth successive defeat.

    Well very frustrating this afternoon 😑 after going 2-1 up we should have gone onto win the game. Thought Gillingham were slightly the better side 1st half but we were far better 2nd. Think play offs are beyond us now but we will still get behind the boys at Accrington. Good luck to Gillingham for the rest of the season COYS 🦐🦐

    Well 3 points and 3 goals, can't ask for more than that.

    If we don't finish in the playoffs, at least end up with a positive goal diff and something to build on for next season.

    Didn't realise that only Mansfield has more away wins than us, it's been the draws at home that may have been our Achilles heel.

    Still at least National League beckoning worries should be a thing of the past.

      True, the radio commentary said Dieng's goal could be goal of the season, whereas the highlights on Gillette Soccer Special showed the goalie should've done better.

      Still I ain't going to complain too much.

    Morecambe were shambolic and Gillingham not much better.Morecambe looked like conceding every time Gillingham attacked and had no real plan going forward. 4 defeats on the bounce and it’s a good job we’ve got points on the board as Morecambe would be struggling to stay up on that performance. Stick to what you know and stop being ‘clever’. We’re not Man City so don’t try and play like them.

    I was visiting morecambe so went to match. I think all supporters deserve credit as it was freezing! Mair had a terrible game in goal for morecambe. Responsible for at least 2 of the goals conceded. Possibly first one as well. I thought a draw would have been fair result as neither side deserved to win. Standard of referee was very poor with two assaults n morecambe players which he ignored.

    How the heck did Malone only get a yellow for that assault on Slew...didn't deserve to lose but our goalkeeper gifted two goals to Gillingham. I think that's the play offs out of reach now...
