WEATHER UPDATE: Beast from the East III toys with EFL fixtures

The Beast from the East has returned to the UK bringing a band of persistent rain, sleet and snow which threatens to severely disrupt the Easter Monday fixture schedule in the English Football League.

Postponements and pitch inspections have already been announced and we will be updating you with the latest state of play throughout the afternoon.

In the Championship, Nottingham Forest’s fixture with Barnsley at The City Ground is off due to a waterlogged pitch.

In Sky Bet League One, Bradford City’s home clash with Walsall became the first fixture to be postponed this morning with the Valley Parade pitch both waterlogged and covered in a thin layer of snow. Doncaster Rovers’ fixture with AFC Wimbledon and Scunthorpe United’s home clash with Plymouth Argyle are also off due to waterlogged pitches.

Chesterfield’s home game against Newport County has become the fifth game of the day to be postponed due also due to a waterlogged pitch while Morecambe’s fixture at home to Cambridge United has also fell foul of the elements.

Torrential rain is moving northwards as the day goes on and fixtures in the south of the UK are expected to beat the weather with several clubs stating that they expect no problems.

Preston North End kick-off the Easter Monday action with a home fixture against Derby County in the Sky Bet Championship (kick-off 12.45pm). There are no major concerns with the playing surface at Deepdale as both clubs look to return to winning ways following Good Friday defeats.
